The box with your inversion table has just landed in the hallway and the question arises: how do you assemble a Teeter inversion table so that you get it right the first time? The good news is that assembly does not require a workshop - the tools you need are included, and the manufacturer provides the free BILT app with 3D instructions. The bad news is that with an inversion table there is no room for “more or less”. Your safety depends on whether the hinges are fitted the right way up and whether the hooks have snapped onto the pins. In this guide we will take you through the whole process: what is in the box, which tools to prepare, what inversion table assembly looks like step by step, which mistakes happen most often, how to adjust the table to yourself, what to check before first use and how much space you need - in use and when folded.
Our description is based on the assembly instructions for the FitSpine LX series tables (the FitSpine LX9 model). The other models - the X1, X3 and EP-560 - are assembled following the same logic, but they do not have a step-up platform or storage caddy, and the details may differ. Always treat the instructions supplied with your model as authoritative.
Is inversion table assembly difficult?
No, if you approach it calmly and in order. Assembly comes down to a few stages: preparing the frame, bolting on the handles, attaching the roller hinges to the bed, seating the bed in the frame and sliding in the main shaft. Most connections are hex bolts and latches - there is no drilling and no adjusting “by eye”.
The manufacturer stresses two things even before the first step:
- Read all the steps and all the warnings before you start - not along the way. That way you know which bolts to tighten right away and which only at the end.
- Follow the assembly instructions and the owner's manual exactly - the safety and integrity of the product depend on it.
The instructions do not give an assembly time - it depends on your experience. Do not rush: the most important part of the process is the checks after each step, not the pace.
What is in the Teeter inversion table box?
After opening the box, unpack all the parts, set aside the packaging materials and clear your work area. The sets of small parts (bolts, screws, feet) are packed in labeled bags that correspond to the successive assembly stages - do not open them all at once, but reach for them as the steps require.

If a part is missing or something is damaged after unpacking, do not start assembly “with substitutes”. Contact us - as the official Teeter distributor in Poland, we will handle it directly.
Which tools do you need for assembly?
Here is a pleasant surprise: everything you need is in the box.
- 2 x 5 mm hex keys - for the platform, handle and bracket bolts. Two keys come in handy when you need to hold a bolt on one side and tighten a screw on the other.
- Phillips screwdriver - LX9 only, supplied with the Storage Caddy.
On your side, it is worth preparing: some free floor space (ideally with a blanket or cardboard so you do not scratch the frame or the floor), a phone with the BILT app and - if possible - a second pair of hands for seating the bed in the frame. The instructions call for tightening the bolts with the included hex keys.
The BILT app - 3D assembly instructions
BILT is a free app with interactive 3D assembly instructions. Instead of turning pages, you view a model of the table on your phone that you can rotate and zoom, and repeat each stage as many times as you need. This is especially helpful for steps where direction matters - e.g. attaching the roller hinges or seating the bed in the frame.
How to start:
- Download the BILT app: App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
- In the app, search for “Teeter” and choose your table model.
- Follow it step by step with the printed instructions at hand - especially the warnings and the check pages.
After assembly, a second app comes in handy - Teeter Move, with free video and audio programs with exercises on and off the table, with no subscription. Access to both apps is included with every table we sell.
Where to assemble the table and how much space do you need?
The instructions advise assembling the table where you will use it, or as close to that spot as possible - that way you avoid carrying the assembled structure through doors and hallways. When choosing the spot, check:
- A level surface - the table must stand stably, away from water and edges (e.g. stairs, a deck) that could cause a fall.
- Free space in front of, above and behind the table - when rotating, the bed travels in an arc, and in full inversion your hands and head are low, close to the floor.
- Ceiling height - according to the LX series assembly instructions, the maximum height of the table in use is approx. 221 cm (at the maximum setting). In a standard room this is usually not a problem, but check sloped ceilings, beams, lamps and chandeliers.
- Indoors only - the table is intended for home use indoors; do not store it outside.
Teeter inversion table dimensions and weight
| Model | Dimensions in use (L x W x H) | Folded dimensions | Table weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| EP-560 | 213.4 x 73.2 x 218.4 cm | 50.8 x 73.2 x 167.6 cm | 26.7 kg |
| FitSpine X1 | 205.7 x 73.2 x 219.7 cm | 50.8 x 73.2 x 167.6 cm | 27.4 kg |
| FitSpine X3 | 205.7 x 73.2 x 219.7 cm | 50.8 x 73.2 x 167.6 cm | 29.9 kg |
| FitSpine LX9 | 207.4 x 81.2 x 219.6 cm | 56.1 x 81.2 x 171.1 cm | 33.4 kg |
For comparison, the LX series assembly instructions give maximum in-use dimensions of 207 x 69.6 x 221 cm (for the LX4 model shown in the drawings). So when planning the space, allow a margin of approx. 221 cm in height and more than 2 m in length, plus free space around the table for getting on, getting off and moving your arms freely.
Inversion table assembly step by step
Below we describe the order of steps according to the FitSpine LX9 assembly instructions - in brief, with the most important checkpoints. You will find the full drawings in the printed instructions and in the BILT app.
Step 1: step-up platform (LX models)
Take out the A-frame and lay it on its back on the floor, with the open ends facing up. Slide both ends of the platform into the open ends of the frame. Each side of the platform is attached through two holes - an inner one (where the rubber foot also goes) and an outer one. First thread all the bolts in by hand, and only then tighten them with the 5 mm hex key. Finally, stand the frame up and spread it on a level surface - the platform and the rubber feet must sit evenly on the floor.
A rule that comes back in several steps: do not fully tighten the bolts until they are all threaded in and the component is properly aligned.
Storage Caddy (LX9 only)
The caddy has to be installed before the handles. Place it under the hinge cover of the left handle (the markings on the handles help you tell left from right) and fasten it with one screw using the included Phillips screwdriver. Check that it holds securely.
Step 2: handles and brackets
Pay attention to the “left side” and “right side” markings. Place the right handle against the right side of the frame and thread in 3 bolts by hand, then do the same on the left. Next, fit the bracket sets where the handle meets the frame (watch the In/Out markings) and loosely fasten them with the bolts and screws using two keys. Only when everything is in place on both sides - fully tighten all the handle and bracket bolts.
Step 3: roller hinges on the bed
This is one of the two steps where it is easiest to make a mistake. Lean the bed against the crossbar at the front of the frame. On one side, lift the cam lock all the way up to unlock it. Hold the roller hinge so that the pivot pin is at the top and facing outward (away from the bed), and slide it in the direction shown by the arrow inside the cam lock. Place the chosen hinge hole over the bracket pin and close the lock. Repeat on the other side.
- Never remove the hinge pivot pin.
- The hinges must be in the same holes on both sides.
- If you are not sure which hole to choose, the instructions recommend setting C to start with. A note from the label: do not use setting A with a body weight over 100 kg.
Step 4: bed to the A-frame
Stand facing the frame on the crossbar side. Grab both hinges just above the cam locks and lift the bed, letting its top part rotate toward the floor - the back of the bed should face you, with its top part in front of the crossbar. Lower the hinge pins into the frame's hinge plates, one side at a time. The self-locking hooks will open and automatically snap shut on the pins. With the second pin, you sometimes need to pull the hinge plate slightly outward.
Check that each pin sits at the bottom of the slot and that the hooks are closed on both sides. The instructions warn: if the hooks have not closed on both pins, the assembly is incorrect, and if not corrected, it may cause serious injury. Finally, rotate the bed upright and check that it rotates smoothly.
Step 5: main shaft
Stand on the left side of the frame, holding the shaft with the height markings facing up. Slide its end into the housing at the base of the bed. With your right hand, pull out the height adjustment pin, slide the shaft further and release the pin at the chosen setting (you will set the correct height after assembly). The shaft must rest against the crossbar of the frame - it is what prevents the bed from rotating forward when you step onto the Ankle Comfort Dial. If the shaft does not rest against the crossbar, the bed has been fitted backward and needs to be corrected.
Finally, test the table by hand: does it rotate smoothly and stably, and are all fasteners secured?
Step 6: angle limiter strap and head pillow
The strap is factory-attached to the frame. Unroll it and clip it to the U-shaped bar under the bed. Use the buckle to lengthen or shorten the strap to the chosen maximum angle. On the X3 and LX9 (EZ-Angle Tether) there are stitched markers: 20° green, 40° orange, 60° red - slide the buckle so that its center lines up with the chosen color. You attach the head pillow by sliding its two tabs into the slots in the upper part of the bed, just below the handle.
Optional steps: lumbar bridge and acupressure nodes
You can install these components right away or later. Before installing them, stabilize the table so that it does not rotate.
- Lumbar bridge - Teeter logo at the bottom, facing you. First slide the two lower notches into the horizontal slots in the lower part of the bed, then bend the bridge to the chosen arch height and slide the upper notch into the matching slot. When you are not using it, store it flat - keeping it in a high arch for a long time can deform it. The instructions recommend starting with a low arch and a moderate angle when using the bridge, because it affects the table's rotation.
- Acupressure nodes - unscrew the black washer, insert the node into the slot from the back of the bed (thread facing forward) and screw it on clockwise. Do not overtighten. You can change the position by loosening the washer and sliding the node along the track.
Final step: manual on the chain
If the owner's manual is not yet attached, clip its chain to the frame through the designated hole in the hinge plate. The manual should hang on the outside of the frame legs so that it does not interfere with rotation. Once attached, do not remove it - it must stay with the table at all times as a reference for every user.
The most common inversion table assembly mistakes
The instructions have a separate “Incorrect assembly check” page - and for good reason. If your table looks like the drawings on that page, it is not fit for use. Here are the mistakes to watch out for:
| Mistake | How to spot it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Roller hinges fitted upside down | The pivot pin is not at the top and facing outward; the table does not look like the drawings | Go back to step 3 and fit the hinges according to the arrow in the cam lock |
| Bed fitted to the frame backward | The main shaft does not rest against the crossbar | Go back to step 4 and seat the bed again |
| Self-locking hooks not snapped shut | The pin does not sit at the bottom of the hinge plate slot, the hook is open | Press the pin down, and if needed pull the plate outward until the hook closes |
| Hinges in different holes on each side | Different A/B/C settings on the left and right | Set the same hole on both sides |
| Bolts tightened too early | The component cannot be aligned, the holes do not line up | Loosen, thread all the bolts in by hand, align, and only then tighten |
| Left and right handles mixed up | The markings on the handles do not match the side of the frame | Check the “left/right side” stickers and swap the handles |
First settings after assembly
An assembled table is not yet ready for inversion. First, it needs to be adjusted for the specific user. The instructions list four settings:
- Roller hinges - control the speed and responsiveness of rotation. To start, use the beginner setting (C). Changing the hole requires removing the bed from the frame - the owner's manual describes this step by step.
- Main shaft - set it so that the last visible value is 2.54 cm (1 in) greater than your height (e.g. at 178 cm - 180 cm). Make sure the pin goes all the way through the shaft, and watch your fingers when releasing the spring-loaded pin.
- Angle limiter - for the first sessions, set a small angle (the instructions recommend starting at 20-30°).
- Ankle Comfort Dial - a dial with a high and a low setting (a difference of 2.54 cm). Choose the setting so that the ankle cushions hug the narrowest part of your ankles with minimal space above the foot.
Then perform a balance test with the limiter strap attached and with the help of a second person: secure your ankles, rest your head on the bed, arms along your sides. With a good setting, the table starts to rotate slightly, and the shaft lifts a few centimeters off the crossbar. If the table rotates to horizontal or further - lengthen the shaft by one hole. If it does not rotate at all - shorten it by one hole. Each time, carefully get off the table before changing the setting.
What should you check before using the table for the first time?
Before your first session, go through this list. You will repeat most of the points before every use.
- Doctor's approval - the instructions prohibit using the table without a doctor's approval and include a list of contraindications. Read it before your first session.
- Owner's manual read in full - including the chapters on securing your ankles, returning upright and releasing the lock in full inversion.
- Smooth rotation - the table rotates smoothly to full inversion and back.
- Fasteners - all bolts tightened, hooks snapped shut, cam locks closed.
- Free space in front of, above and behind the table.
- Footwear - lace-up shoes with flat soles, no higher than the ankle.
- Ankles secured using the “hear - feel - see - check” method - you must not be able to pull your feet out of the ankle cushions.
- Assistance - a second person nearby for your first sessions.
- User range - 142-198 cm in height and a maximum of 136 kg.
How to fold an inversion table for storage?
You fold Teeter tables without tools. According to the instructions, it goes like this:
- Unclip the angle limiter strap.
- Pull out the height adjustment pin and slide the main shaft in to the last hole (the storage setting, by the rear ankle cushions), then release the pin.
- Stand in front of the bed and rotate it in the direction opposite to the direction of use until it rests against the frame crossbar.
- Pull up on the spreader arms to fold the frame, leaving the frame legs spread 16-20 in (approx. 41-51 cm) apart. Watch your fingers.
When folded, the table takes up approx. 50.8 x 73.2 cm of floor space (EP-560, X1, X3) or 56.1 x 81.2 cm (LX9), at a height of approx. 168-171 cm - you will find the exact dimensions in the table above.
Storage that is safe for your household
- Tip-over risk - a table folded upright must have its frame legs spread wide enough to stand stably, or be secured to a wall.
- Children in the home - do not store the table upright. Fold it and lay it flat on the floor.
- Table unfolded and ready for use - secure it against accidental rotation: wrap the limiter strap around the main shaft and the crossbar and fasten the buckle, or use a key lock (a manufacturer's accessory). Check that the bed cannot rotate.
- Under the table it is worth placing an inversion table mat - it will protect the floor.
Maintenance after assembly
Clean the table with a damp cloth. Before each use, inspect it for wear and damage. Damaged or worn parts must be replaced immediately, and the table must not be used until it is repaired. Do not modify the table and do not use parts from other manufacturers - any modification voids the UL safety certification. You will find original add-ons in our Accessories category, and if you need a spare part - write to us.
This is a medical device. Use it in accordance with the instructions for use or the label. Before first use, read the contraindications described in the manual and consult a doctor.
Frequently asked questions
How do you assemble a Teeter inversion table?
According to the instructions: install the platform (on LX models), bolt on the handles and brackets, attach the roller hinges to the bed, seat the bed in the frame so that the self-locking hooks snap onto the pins, and slide in the main shaft, which must rest against the crossbar. Finally, clip on the angle limiter strap and the pillow. It is easiest to do this with the BILT app, which shows each step in 3D.
Which tools do you need to assemble a Teeter table?
They are all included: two 5 mm hex keys, plus, on the LX9 model, a Phillips screwdriver for the Storage Caddy. You do not need a drill or a power screwdriver.
Where can I find the 3D assembly instructions?
In the free BILT app, available on the App Store and Google Play. After installing it, search for “Teeter” and choose your model. You can rotate and zoom the 3D model and repeat each step.
How high does the ceiling need to be for an inversion table?
The LX series assembly instructions give a maximum in-use table height of approx. 221 cm. According to the model data, the in-use height ranges from 218.4 cm (EP-560) to 219.7 cm (X1, X3). On top of that, you need free space in front of, above and behind the table - check lamps, beams and sloped ceilings.
How much space does a folded inversion table take up?
When folded, the EP-560, X1 and X3 measure 50.8 x 73.2 x 167.6 cm, and the LX9 - 56.1 x 81.2 x 171.1 cm. Remember that a table folded upright must have its frame legs spread approx. 41-51 cm apart or be secured to a wall, and in a home with children it should be stored flat on the floor.
Which roller hinge hole should I choose to start with?
If you are not sure, the assembly instructions recommend setting C. The hinges must be in the same hole on both sides. According to the warning label, setting A is not used with a body weight over 100 kg.
What should I do if the main shaft does not rest against the crossbar?
This is a sign that the bed has been seated in the frame backward. In this state the table is not fit for use. Go back to the bed assembly step, remove the bed from the hinge plates and fit it again according to the instructions - the back of the bed should face you while you seat it.
Can I do a full inversion right after assembly?
No. First adjust the table to yourself, do a balance test with the limiter strap attached and start with small angles (20-30°) and short 1-2 minute sessions. The instructions allow full inversion only once you are in full control of the rotation and feel comfortable at 60°.
